My own Wig Wam = all my childhood dreams came true

Plaza lights

The Kansas City Plaza lights are still up so I can still pretend it’s the most magical time of the year and not January if I want to, right? Christmas may have already came and went with the beginning of the new year, but my recent pre-Christmas adventure to The WigWam Resort, right outside of Phoenix, Arizona the week before has stayed with me. Even though I was there on business, The WigWam was the coziest and cutest home away from home. And it was all done up in all of its Christmas splendor, complete with a candy cane lane and gigantic Christmas trees. Built in 1920, this historic hotel is spread out on almost 20,000 acres with two world renowned golf courses, an Elizabeth Arden Spa, and beautiful grounds filled with guest “wig wams” – not your typical hotel room.  Originally opened by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company as a guest ranch, the updated resort has beautiful pools (one has a slide!), 331 casas and suites, outdoor fire pits, plus ballroom, meeting, restaurant, bar, and wedding space, all with gorgeous southwestern furnishings, flowering plants and cacti. It is truly a jewel nestled right outside of the Phoenix hustle and bustle.

My own personal wig wam was a comfortable home away from home oasis for the week with my own fireplace, large tile walk-in shower, walk-in closet, soft king sized bed, and cozy robe and blankets. I also had a front patio which was perfect for eating breakfast (their food was amazing!) and soaking up the Arizona sun on my last day. It was unseasonably cold while I was there (thanks, El Nino) and the fireplace was a welcome retreat after long work days outside. The main reception and dining area was a treasure trove of Southwestern artifacts and history, which I loved. The staff was friendly, the whole place smelled incredible, and there were oranges from orange trees everywhere. I grew up just a little bit (a lot) obsessed with Native American and Southwestern culture, so this really was a dream stay for me.  I didn’t want to ever leave my Wig Wam.
